Messages/Updates:

06/02/2008 -  Pictures from Grandmom and Grandpop Pat and Larry's 50th Anniversary are in the
secure family album.  Email me at angela@ourgrandparents.com if you need the ID and Password.

03/26/2008 -  OurGrandparents.com has a brand-new look.  I've added some more info
(particularly on the Opelski side) and some other neat little things.  Much more to come.

I also added a new section, In Memory. I'd like to add personal memories, stories, bios, pictures,
etc. for those of our family who've moved on to a better place. I haven't gotten to finish the
general info, bio's, etc. but will try to do that soon. There's just so much to say, especially about
my great-grandparents and Aunt Mary!  Please help me out here by providing some good stories,
pictures, an so on.  The page I have for Uncle Yosh (Anthony Kolenda) is a good idea of what I'm
going for - general bio information and memories from family and friends.

Thanks to everyone who's been working with me to get pictures and general info.  Grandmom
Perna, Uncle Ed Opelski, Aunt JoAnne Opelski, and Grandmom Kolenda.  I've got lots of pictures
and other goodies to get scanned and out on the website.

Ultimately, I'd like to put together a family reunion (or two?).  I'm thinking campground with
cabins and making a weekend of it.  Main reunion events on a Saturday, but maybe some activities
Friday night, and a church service and breakfast Sunday?  Lots of notice for those who'd have to
travel.  We'd have family info, games, activities, pictures, etc.  This will require a lot of planning,
gathering of information, etc.  So, is anyone interested in joining a "reunion committee?"  The more
the merrier (and easier)!

Also, if anyone has their own website, or would like to create a webpage or two for themselves or
their family, please let me know.  I've got plenty of room on the site to add your pages or links to
your sites.  If you're new to the whole web thing, you can create pages really easily in Microsoft
Word by just saving the page as html.  I'll add them under the "Other Family Pages" section.

Best wishes,
Angela

05/08/2007 - Welcome to the newest member of the family, Shannon Leigh McAfee, born to
Melissa (Kolenda) and Jack McAfee. on May 1st at 4:26 p.m.  8lbs 14oz.and 21 inches long.
Hurry home to see your sweet little girl, Jack!

04/17/2007 - Added 4 minute video interview of Mommom Adele Perna under the "Photo Album"
section.  This interview was conducted by great-grandson James Kelly in 1994 for a school
project and video taped by Sharon Kelly.  Mommom was asked about her childhood and
immigration to the US.  You can tell she did not like the new-fangled video camera!  Aunt Mary
can also be heard on the tape asking a few questions.  We miss you Mommom and Aunt Mary!

If you would like a copy of the video on DVD, please email me at angela@ourgrandparents.com.  I
can also email the video in Windows Media format.  It is only 4 minutes, but is a fairly large file
for email and the website, so please be patient.

Thanks to Aunt Sharon and James for sharing the video with us.

03/11/2007 - Added lots of new documents:

- WWI Draft Registration Card for Frank Kolenda (born 1893) - Grandpop Joe Kolenda's father.

- 1930 Census - Lists Violet Skupski as a Practical Nurse working at the Norristown State
Hospital.  Violet is great-grandmom Helen (Skupski) Kolenda's sister.

- 1910 Census - Lists Marcella Skupski as living with her son Joseph and his wife Amelia and their
children.  Joseph Skupski is great-grandmom Helen (Skupski) Kolenda's father.  Marchella is his
mother.  That makes her my great-great-great grandmother.  There are other Skupski's listed as
living next door.  Not sure of their relation yet.  They are Walter and Amanda?, children Walter,
Bertha, Mary and Elsie.

- 1930 Census listing the Charnick family.  Bart and Barbara are are great-grandmom Eva
(Charnick) Tobinus's parents.  Their children are listed as:  Joe, Mary, Louise, Eva, Julia, Ros,
Leo, Helen and Teresa.  Also listed as brother-in-laws are Frank Crapp and Joe Sarin.  There is a
Grandmother listed as Agnes Zoatka.  Not sure the relation of these three yet.  They don't fit with
the names I have.

- 1968 Article about Marie (Larson) Opelski's involvment as a volunteer in the Homemakers Home
Aide group.

- 1886 Immigration records for Arthur Larson and his parents.  He was an infant.  Best I can read,
his parents were Aud and Krista.

- 1930 Census showing Frank and Anna Opielski and children (This is Great-Grandpop Frank
Opelski's uncle and his family.)

-1920 Census showing Frank and Eva Opielski (Great-Grandpop Frank Opelski's grandparents.
Yes, my great-great-great grandparents!)

- 1910 Census showing Frank and Eva Opelski and family.

03/09/2007 - Mailing address for Jack McAfee in Iraq:
Cpl. McAfee Jack L. Jr.
B Battery
2D LAAD DET. A
Unit 78087
FPO AE 09509-8087
From Chrissy:  Just an update on Jack, he is doing well, Melissa talked to him several times. He
says so far what he's doing is pretty boring and safe, which is good. He is guarding the base
entrance and the towers. He says he sits up in the towers with his two huge rifles on 8- 12 hour
shifts at a time and gets about 8 hours of sleep which is good also.

02/07/2007 - Marine Jack McAfee, husband of Melissa (Kolenda) will be leaving for Iraq
tomorrow.  Please keep Jack and his family - and all of our soldiers - in your prayers.  Return
home safely and quickly Jack!  God bless the USA!

01/30/2007 - Added more charts for Mommom and Poppop (Adele and Larry) Perna.  This
includes updated ancestry charts and "Ancestry Book" which gives all the details I have for our
great-great-etc grandparents.  I've also added the descendants charts, so all us cousins can figure
out how we're related!

01/26/2007 - Added Mommom and Poppop (Adele and Larry) Perna's charts to the Family
Heritage section of the website.  I'm still compiling details for descendants, so those charts are not
yet posted.  (Don't want to miss anyone!)

I'm working on compiling a family directory for the Perna/Paschall branch of the family tree.
Please email me if you haven't yet given me your contact information.  I'll post this information on
the secure section of the website when I have it all.

I'd like to put together a biography for Aunt Mary Perna to post on the website and share with the
family.  If you can assist me with this, please email me.  We love you, Aunt Mary!

12/27/2006 - I've added pictures from the Kolenda's Christmas Eve gathering.  Click the Photo
Album, then choose "Secure Photo Album".  Email me at angela@ourgrandparents.com if you
need the ID and password.

Also added a photo of the gravesite of Paul Opielski, my great-grandpop brother.  He fought with
the US in WWII in Italy.  He was killed in battle on July 5, 1944.  He received the Purple Heart and
is buried in the american cemetary in Florance, Italy.
