In Loving Memory of Adele (Imbimbo) Perna (1902-2004)
AKA - "Mommom"
Eulogy for Mommom Perna, by Mike Paschall
(Source:  Family Times Newsletter published by Jayne McVeigh)

What an overwhelming task to prepare these words for mommom Perna.  I am humbled - as
we all should be - by the breadth and totality of her life!

Mommom Perna is an amalgam of art, religion, history, culture, language, teaching - an
preaching - and so much unconditional love!  The rush of time is remorseless as it shapes
the phases of our lives.  Yet this great lady - held in highest esteem by all - took on every day
of her life with complete passion.  Each day was on her terms.  Look out . . . she always
had a job to do.

The motto of God, Family, self, became for her, god, family, family.  She was purely
selfless!  Everyone in this group has been, and will continue to be, affected in a positive way
by knowing her.  Her courage was unyielding.  She knew no fear!  Yet she was still a very
humble  person who seemed to be an unending fountain of tenderness and faith.  She taught
me - and I am sure all of her family - many life lessons through her actions and words - both
spoken and unspoken.

Many time I look back with amazement at her life.  Her faith in God was real!  At first I
thought it was the Italian Catholic upbringing.  But I came to realise that she had the very real
gift of faith in God.  She knew God all along and I never knew it!  But believe it, this lady
knew God in life and especially now.  I think she had two telephones - one for the phone
company and one connected directly to God (or at least the Vatican)!  My words today are
directed to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  I ask you to reflect and really try
to comprehend what we all had with this great lady!

While we grow up we learn life lessons in many ways.  My vision of Mommom Perna was
that she was our own wise little "Yoda" on earth.  Our family conduit to God and to triumphs
over any adversity.  No matter the tragedy or triumph, she was our inner force.  She was
every one of our greatest cheerleaders through all of our lives.  She delivered a wealth of
knowledge and wisdom, and I only hope we recognized it as often as possible.  Her presence
was and is huge!  She loved each of you grandchildren and great-grandchildren so
unconditionally that sometimes it is completely overwhelming.

When I stepped into her house - I swear to you - all my problems slipped away!  When I ate
in her kitchen, slept on her couch, talked with her, and just spent quiet moments with her, I
assure you she was working her magic on me!  On all of us whenever we were in the same
room as her.  Each time I saw her from early childhood to yesterday, I became completely
warmed over with such a sense of security and comfort.

Every time I spoke to her on the telephone I would smile for 10 minutes after I hung up.  I
cannon explain why, but she was working her magic on my soul.  She was the life force for
her entire family.

I must respectfully and unashamedly admit that I am lost for the appropriate praise for all of
her immediate family.  Her husband, Larry, son Larry and daughter-in-law Pat, her daugher
Carmella and son-in-law Joe, and her ever-devoted daugher, Mary.  (We love you Aunt
Mary!)

These people were the ones who built this extended family based on her foundation.  These
people can be proud that Mommom Perna led the way for this amazing family.  We will wear
her mark forever.  Tehy continued the legacy of her love and strength and her message that
a sense of family is all that is important in this world.  Period.

They passed it on to us grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  So please take time to tank
them for sharing her with us.  This is a big responsibility so let's handle it with pride.  We are
proof of her positive effect on this family and on this world.

I am awed by her greatness!  You should be too.  We love you Grandmom!
Your Grandson, Michael Paschall
